Béla Fleck is considered the world’s premier banjo player, has won 14 Grammy Awards and 30 nominations, and virtually reinvented the sound and image of the banjo. Brooklyn Rider is known for its work with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road project, and its commitment to the creation of new works. From its appearances at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to a recent tour in China, Brooklyn Rider is credited with “recreating the 300-year old form of the string quartet as a vital and creative 21st-century ensemble” (NPR). The program is anchored byNight Flight Over Water, Fleck’s newly composed quintet for banjo and string quartet.
