Playing with Bach

Music Mondays presents “Playing with Bach,” a program of innovative Bach transcriptions and paraphrases, both playful and serious, featuring performances by the Calefax Reed Quintet (“engagingly atypical,” New Yorker), organist Paul Jacobs (“one of the major musicians of our time,” New Yorker), flutist Claire Chase (“spectacular,” New Yorker), pianists Orion Weiss (“virtuosity to spare, Washington Post) and Aaron Wunsch (“masterful,” Hartford Courant) and electric guitarist Mark Dancigers (“entrancing,” New York Times). The program includes arrangements by Salvatore Sciarrino (Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565, for solo flute), Paul Jacobs (Sinfonia fromCantata No. 29, for organ solo), György Kurtág (cantata excerpts for piano, four hands), Frederico Busoni
(Chorale Preludes for solo piano), and Calefax Reed Quintet (the complete Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, for reed quintet.
