21CMposium connects like-minded artists, students, teachers, presenters, administrators and change agents to gather and begin re-imagining “best practices” for musicians to respond to the shifting marketplace and cultural landscape of the contemporary moment.
CHANGE - A Session for College Music Executives, Faculty, Students, and Emerging 21st-Century Musicians. "Change" grapples with the challenges in the the 21st-Century whether Leading, Living, or Learning the change. Business and music leaders, teachers and performers present inspiring ways forward.
TALK 21 - is a series of 21-minute talks filmed before a live audience in which the speaker presents thoughts and ideas relating to 21st-century music, musicians or musicianship. These ideas are distilled into a 21-minute presentation that often include music, visual aids and other audio-visual elements. After the 21-minute presentation, a short window is provided for question and answer between presenter and audience. In a brief time, thought-provoking conversations are started to be continued throughout the symposium and beyond.
Expand your thinking and your musical world through thought-provoking and genre-bending workshops presented by members of the Fifth House Ensemble, Decoda and Roomful of Teeth. These 90-minute sessions are exemplars of 21st century musicianship and presented in smaller venues and repeated so that all registrants can catch each one.
Connect during after hour performances that mix informal conversations and live performances on both Friday and Saturday night in our downtown location, Music on the Square.
LAUNCH - The 21st-Century Musician Initiative is looking to launch the next generation of chamber ensembles re-imagining the future of art music – embracing the entrepreneurial-mindset, bending and blending genres, connecting to audiences where they live, and strengthening the communities they serve. To do this, young ensembles of 2 - 8 will compete for a $10,000 prize, a performance at Le Poisson Rouge, a new recording, and business and marketing mentoring for a year.
