The Curve of the Wind

An interdisciplinary performance featuring Seen/Heard Trio and DM Young Artists' Theatre

The Curve of the Wind is an avant-garde children’s book sprung to life in both sight and sound. Seen/Heard Trio featuring flutist Erika Boysen, harpist Jennifer R. Ellis, and mezzo-soprano Megan Ihnen perform Joseph Schwantner’s rarely heard “Wild Angels of Open Hills” (1977) while student actors from DM Young Artists’ Theatre captivate the audience with a minimalist, immersive production exploring Ursula Le Guin’s evocative text.

Our story broadly follows a hawk that fell from the sky, like Icarus into the water, to be rescued by an angel.  The angel tried to set the hawk free but she couldn’t fly until she healed.  With patience, care, and love she worked to build trust until this wild creature would fly. The Curve of the Wind explores themes of environmentalism, friendship, coming of age, and healing.
