Event Description:

Percussionist and composer Glenn Kotche (of Wilco) and Chicago-based ensemble Third Coast Percussion are creating a unique program for Met Museum Presents, which centers on one of the most extraordinary objects in the Met and Musical Instruments department's collection, an 1880 Rock Harmonicon, also known as a stone dulcimer or a geological piano.

In addition, these inspired musicians will perform some of the most vital percussion-based classical music of the twentieth century including Steve Reich's Music for Pieces of Wood and Nagoya Marimbas, as well as the New York premiere of Kotche's Wild Sound, an immersive multi-media experience featuring custom-designed instruments built on stage.

Wild Sound was commissioned by the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center and the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Chamber Music America Endowment Fund. Additional support provided by The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Liquid Music Series.
